Carnegie

The Carnegie scholarship awards 8-10 one-year fellowships to graduating seniors and individuals who have graduated during the past academic year. They are selected from a pool of nominees from close to 400 participating colleges. Carnegie Junior Fellows work as research assistants to the Endowment's senior associates. Those who have begun graduate studies are not eligible for consideration. The application is only available through the Office of Fellowships and Undergraduate Research

Merage
|
The Merage Foundation for the American Dream is dedicated to enable promising immigrant students contribute to America as leaders in business, science, education, and the arts. The two-year, $20,000 scholarship helps promising immigrant students become leaders in their communities and in the nation by rewarding academic accomplishments, community leadership, civic responsibility, ethical behavior, creativity, and initiative. It encourages Americans to recognize and celebrate immigrants’ contributions to the United States and fosters nonpartisan discussion of key immigration issues facing the U.S. Candidates are evaluated on whether they demonstrate a clear set of objectives and strategies concerning achieving leadership positions in one of the following areas of concern: business, culture and the arts, science or education, or public service.

Luce
|
The program provides stipends, language training, and individualized professional placement in Asia for 15-18 Luce Scholars each year, and welcomes applications from college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals in a variety of fields who have had limited exposure to Asia. Placements can be made in the following countries or regions: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

|
The Winston Churchill Foundation awards at least fourteen scholarships for one year of graduate study at Churchill College, Cambridge.

Watson
|
The Thomas J. Watson Fellowship offers college graduates of "unusual promise" a year of independent, purposeful exploration and travel -- in international settings new to them -- to enhance their capacity for resourcefulness, imagination, openness, and leadership and to foster their humane and effective participation in the world community. The stipend for the fellowship year is $25,000 ($35,000 for fellows accompanied by a spouse or dependent child).

Fulbright
|

Marshall
|
Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. Up to forty Scholars are selected each year to study at graduate level at an UK institution in any field of study.

Mitchell
|
The Mitchell is designed to introduce and connect generations of future American leaders to the island of Ireland, while recognizing and fostering intellectual achievement, leadership, and a commitment to community and public service. Up to twelve Mitchell Scholars between the ages of 18 and 30 are chosen annually for one year of postgraduate study in any discipline offered by institutions of higher learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Applicants are judged on three criteria: scholarship, leadership, and a sustained commitment to community and public service. The Mitchell Scholars Program provides tuition, accommodations, a living expenses stipend, and an international travel stipend.

Rhodes Scholars may study any full-time postgraduate course offered by Oxford, whether a taught Master’s program, a research degree, or a second undergraduate degree (senior status).

| Udall |
Scholarships are offered in any of three categories: to students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to the environment including policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, economics, and other related fields; or to Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to tribal public policy, including fields related to tribal sovereignty, tribal governance, tribal law, Native American education, Native American justice, natural resource management, cultural preservation and revitalization, Native American economic development, and other areas affecting Native American communities; or to Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to Native health care, including health care administration, social work, medicine, dentistry, counseling, and research into health conditions affecting Native American communities, and other related fields. |

The Truman awards $30,000 for graduate study to current juniors who intend to pursue a career in public service. The Foundation seeks to identify candidates who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to public service. |

The Goldwater scholarship provides a continuing source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers by awarding scholarships to college students who intend to pursue careers in these fields. | CD Broad |
In 1945, some American soldiers were permitted to attend classes at Cambridge University in England after WWII. In 1954, one of those soldiers, Mr. Frank T. Abraham, had the pleasure of returning the favor by entertaining Professor C.D. Broad in Houston, TX. During his time in Houston, Professor Broad became acquainted with Rice University and through this connection the C.D. Broad Scholarship was born.
The Scholarship provides one sophomore, junior, or graduating senior the opportunity to study at Trinity College Cambridge for one year. |

The Wagoner Foreign Study Scholarship provides undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni/ae who graduated in 2012 up to $15,000 for independent research or study abroad for a minimum of six weeks to one year. The Leebron Smyth Award provides one returning undergraduate $3500 for research or study abroad for a minimum of six weeks during the summer. The Global Engineering Research Scholarship provides returning undergraduate engineering students funding for research or internship abroad, with preference given to proposals to Asia and South America. |

| CCE Fellows Program |
The CCE Fellows Program supports substantive, high-quality undergraduate research and/or design projects that are faculty-supervised and conducted in collaboration with a Houston-based partner. The program funds community-based research and design projects in all fields of study. Open to non-graduating Rice undergraduate students. Fellows receive stipend of $4000. 2013 Program runs May 28-September 5. Application deadline: February 15, 2013 |

| Janus Award |
The
Janus Award promotes student investigation of complex
environmental or science issues from multiple perspectives. The award is open to all non-graduating
Rice undergraduate students and supports summer research with a stipend
of $2500. Successful applicants may
come from any field of study and may seek to investigate environmental or
science issues from any number of perspectives, including ethical, social,
economic, and political. Project must be in the US. Application deadline: February 15, 2013 |
