Rice University Undergraduate Conference Grants
Fall Deadline: 5 p.m.,October 17, 2012
Spring Deadline: 5 p.m., February 11, 2013
The Office of Fellowships and Undergraduate Research is accepting applications from individuals and teams for conference grants. Individuals will receive $250.00, teams $500.00, and multiple grants will be awarded.
Eligibility
*Current juniors and seniors (defined 3 and 4 years beyond year of matriculation, not by credit hours) who are attending a conference between July 1-December 31, 2012 to present research or design (poster session or oral presentation)
*Preference given to students whose presentation has resulted from substantive, ongoing research
*Cumulative GPA of 3.3
Requirement
Winners must agree to present research at RURS on April 12, 2013 (note: if you would like to ensure that your abstract is included in the booklet, please submit to RURS by March 9)
Application-compile first five documents as one pdf and send to scholars@rice.edu
*Copy of abstract submitted to conference and letter of acceptance if already received
*300 word statement explaining relevance of conference to student's field of interest and personal and academic benefits
*Budget with other funding sources sought and received listed/receipts for those who have attended already
*Transcript
*Resume
*Letter of support from faculty advisor (sent to scholars@rice.edu)
Notes Regarding Applications:
You are encouraged to attend the CCE Budget Writing Workshops on October 4th and January 16th
In your essays,
- Be sure to emphasize the value of the conference
- What role the research has played into your future career plans
- Be aware of your audience, avoid jargon or discipline-specific language as much as possible
